高遠ブックフェスティバル

信州・高遠で開催される「第２回・高遠ブックフェスティバル」に出展することになりました。開催は9/18〜9/23です。
このブックフェスティバルは、期間中に本の町になるというブックツーリズムな町おこし施策で、道路に本棚が並んだりしちゃう面白いお祭りです。「しりあがり寿と灯籠を作ろう！」とか「平間至×津田直 トークイベント『写真とことば』」とか、「映画『裁判長！ここは懲役４年でどうですか』特別試写会」とか、個人的にも行ってみたい、ヤバゲなイベントが目白押しなのです。「イベントスケジュール」をご覧くださいませ。そんな中、「Cambodian Taxi Driver」も出展させて頂くことになりました。大変恐縮です。
9/18〜20、9/23は会場に居る予定です。同時に、銀座巷房で一緒に展示してた、とよ田キノ子氏の「Mushroom meets girl」も展示していますのでよろしくどうぞ。会場は「ガーデンテラス四季の杜」というところです。高遠までのアクセスはこちら「アクセスマップ」です。
それと今回、本部になる会場「やますそ」にて、DVDを直接販売しますので、この機会にぜひお買い求めください。ブックレットも付いててイイ感じですよ。

I’m excited to say that I’ll be exhibiting at the 2nd Takato Book Festival, held in Takato, Shinshu from Sept. 18th through to the 23rd. Aiming to transform the town into a centre for ‘book tourism’, this interesting festival will see the streets lined with bookshelves for the duration of the event. With such events as ‘Let’s make a garden lantern with Shiriagari Kotobuki!’, ‘Hiruma Itaru x Tsuda Nao Talkshow: Photographs and Words’ and a preview screening of the film ‘Saibanchou! Koko wa Choueki Yonen de Dousuka’, on a personal level too it’s the kind of festival I’d want to visit. A real feast of an event!
Please do have a look at the event schedule. Among the events, I am humbled to say, is a showing of Cambodian Taxi Driver. I plan to be at the festival Sept. 18-20 and again on the 23rd. Toyoda Kinoko’s ‘Mushroom meets girl’ exhibition, which I exhibited alongside at Kobo Gallery Ginza, will also be showing, and we’d love it if you paid us a visit. The location is the Four Seasons Grove Garden Terrace; for how to get to Takato please see this access map.
Incidentally, this time I’m going to be selling my DVD at the festival’s main venue the Yamasuso. I’d be delighted if you took this opportunity to pick up a copy. It comes with a lovely booklet.

銀座ギャラリー巷房にて行ったエキシビション、たくさんの方に来ていただきました。ありがとうございました。
お花やスイーツ、お酒などもたくさん頂戴し、結果やっぱり太りました。
まるまる１週間、銀座通いしましたが、銀座のギャラリー文化はとても興味深く、奥が深く、ちょっとした人生勉強の場でした。今後の作品展示のヒントにもなりました。
巷房では写真展示が珍しい上、映像のインスタレーションは初めてのようで、知らずに来られて方には盛り込みすぎなように感じたかもしれません。
また、コンセプトを知る前にビジュアルが先行するわけで、大版プリントした作品のチョイスは吟味の方向性が違っていたかもしれません。
映像も改善点がたくさん見つかりました。ハワイでの上映から大幅に手を加えたように、次回こういった機会があればまた手を加えると思います。
お越し頂いた皆さま、お越しいただけなくても応援くださった皆さま、皆さまのおかげで無事に今回のエキシビションを終えることができました。本当にありがとうございました。
９月以降に国内外で展示の調整をしていますので、またこのブログでアナウンスします。
A great many people came to the exhibition at Ginza’s Gallery Kobo. Thank you all! I received flowers and sweets as well as plenty of booze and the like; of course I’ve gotten fatter as a result!
For one whole week I commuted over to Ginza. The gallery culture there is so deeply interesting and profound, you might say that it gave me one of life’s lessons. It also provided some hints about how I might exhibit my work in future.
Not only are photographic exhibitions rare at Kobo, but it seems that mine was the first video installation to be shown there. For those who came unaware of this, it was probably a little overwhelming.
Also, because the visuals take precedent over understanding the concept, I maybe made some misjudgments in selecting the works that I showed as large prints.
I also found many ways in which to improve the showing of video. From the screening in Hawaii I was able to make a great many revisions; likewise if another opportunity like this presents itself I think I’ll be able to make still more.
Thanks to those who came along, and those who though unable to visit nonetheless supported me, I was able to successfully see this exhibition through to the end. Thank you ever so much.
From September onwards I’ll be fine-tuning the exhibition both in Japan and overseas; please check this blog for announcements.

３日目を終え、残りあと３日。
大勢の方に来ていただき、おみやげのスイーツで太る一方です。ありがとうございます。
作品を観ていただいて、その場でコメントもいただけるというのは貴重な機会なんだなと再認識の日々です。これからお越しになる皆さま、挙動不審ですがお気軽に声をかけてくださいね…。

Three days into the exhibition, with three days remaining.
A mass of people have visited, and I’m getting fat on the sweets I’ve been given. Thank you! Each day I’ve come to appreciate again what a precious thing it is to have people glimpse your work and comment upon it right there. Though it might be seen as suspicious behavior, those who visit from hereon please raise your voices without restraint!

5/16 Hawaii exhibition Report

ハワイのボランティア団体 e-mail foster parents からのオファーがあり、ピクサー代表のEdwin Catmull、テトリスホールディングスのHenk B.Rogers、eBay代表の方など数多くのセレブリティをはじめ、100人以上が居られる中、5/16にワイキキDave & Baster’sにてエキシビションを行いました。ホールでの映像作品上映と写真作品展示を行い、皆さまより素晴らしい言葉の数々を頂きました。Tom Hanksも居たようですがお話しできず…。このボランティア団体は今回、カンボジア人孤児100人以上をToy Story 3の先行公開に招待するイベントを行っていました。映画はさすが素晴らしい内容。
現在、各国でのエキシビション実現に向けてアクションを起こしていますが、ハワイからは思いがけないオファーで、10日足らずの準備期間は不眠不休。団体のRob Hail、Jay Jurick に大変良いアテンドをしていただき、結果として成功したエキシビションになりました。オファーをくれたJared Ritter、通訳のScott Whelden には家族ぐるみで接待して頂き大変感謝しています。
作品の海外搬送やエキシビションに向けての準備内容など学んだことも数多く、次回に活かしたいと思います。
